Every photographer has a “why.” Some love the art (I agree-I love this too). Some love meeting new people and travel. For me, it’s a little more personal.
A few years ago, when my granny passed away, the first thing we did as a family was pull out the photo albums. We sat around looking at old pictures and telling stories. Some were posed, but the ones we really lingered over were the real-life ones—the hugs on the porch, the kids being silly, holding babies that are now grown. Those photos reminded us of who we are as a family.
That moment had a big impact on me. That’s why, when I photograph families and maternity sessions, I see so much more than a session. I see connection. I see the story you—and your children’s children—will hold onto for years to come.
Maternity sessions especially mean so much to me. They’re more than just a bump photo. They’re about that anticipation—that in-between moment right before your world shifts forever.
Even in my own family, I’ve felt that mix of emotions when we have been getting ready to welcome a new baby. I’m so excited—but I’ve also had a little bit of grief too. Grief that our family will never look exactly the same again. But that’s the beauty of it—families keep growing to make room for more love.
That’s why I love photographing these seasons. They’re fleeting—messy, joyful, emotional, and beautiful all at once. When I’m behind the camera, my goal isn’t just to take “nice” photos. My goal is to freeze the feelings you’ll want to hold onto ten years from now.
